In reply to Effexor XR increasing dose - terrible nights, posted by vera17 on September 18, 2004, at 20:32:38
300mg is not unusual, but a little high.
I function well on 150mg and bump it to 225 if I am having a "down" time.
The side effects tend to moderate with time.

> I and 41 and have been taking Effexor XR 150 mg for two months. Prior to that I took Prozac for about 10 years (40 mg). Due to changes at work, my depression increased this spring and I tried Lexapro 10mg (loved it but couldn't sleep), then Paxil (hated it - felt more depressed, cried all the time), then Effexor XR 75 mg for a couple of weeks, then up to 150 mg for two months. I could function with some effort but my Dad died and the Doctor increased me to 300 mg. BUT I'm supposed to take 225 mg. for two weeks. I take the Effexor in the am.

> The first 6 days were okay, then I inadvertently took 300 mg one day and back to 225 for the last three days. I'm also taking 40 mg. to 120 mg. of Geodon at night. 120 mg. leaves me drowsy the next day so I've only taken 40 mg. the last two nights. These last two nights have been terrible. Before I take the Geodon in the evening, I begin to have a terrible tension headache, stiff neck, and tense jaw. I am flushed, then chilling. I am shaky and my eyes don't want to focus. I am so miserable that I'm actually scared, I've never felt the "effects" of a medication......it is so unnatural. Is this a withdrawal from one day at 300 mg???? or is my dose too high. I feel super during the day - really good and high functioning but the nights scare me and I can only sleep if I take the geodon. HELP! Any insight? What do the side effects mean?
