> Hi everyone, I'm new here. Hope to find some answers. I've been on 500mg Seroquel and 200mg of Zoloft for 3 years. I was diagnosed with bpd 7 years ago, although I've probably had it my whole life-just didn't know it had a name. My question is:is it ok to stay on the same meds forever? My doctor wont even talk about changing meds, because they were so effective for the first 2 years I took them; but they're not effective any more; I'm back to my old ways-which I won't go into here-except to say the old ways were not and are not healthy. Anyway, if anyone has any answers I appreciate your help. Thanks.
Hey! docs LOVE IT when they hit a med combo that controls BPD/BPD type II. This is why it can sometimes be hard to get them to change anything..they don't want mania or depression, and all psychotropics have side effects. That being said, what exactly are your problems right now? If depression/anxiety are big problems, you might beend a new anti-depressant (200mgs is a hefty dose of Zoloft), a booster (benzo, stimulant, etc.), or something problem-specific- like Ambien for insomnia, Inderal for panic, etc. If the whole cluster of bipolar problems is coming back despite your med regimine ("breakthrough cycling"), some serious work should be done. Your doc could try adding an anti-convulsant mood-stabilizer (depakote, tegretal/trilepal, lamictal, etc.), adding on an anti-psychotic, increasing the seroquel, or switching you from seroquel to a different AP, like Abilify or Geodon. And of course, if all else fails..there's lithium, possibly with an anti-depressant and/or anti-psychotic and/or add-on meds. Good luck!
