In reply to What are Ritalin's Pos/Neg Effects?????, posted by Stryker88 on June 29, 2004, at 6:00:02
Hi. I don't have ADD but I did take Ritalin for depression for a while. Within a half hour of taking it I remember going from severely depressed/anxious to calm/happy/serene. The feeling didn't stay at that high. I then went back "down" until the afternoon dose. However I quickly developed a tolerance. And the "crash" after the initial high was miserable. I can't imagine that it would help with ADD.
I lost some weight because it is an appetite suppressant, and I drank alot of water because it gives you a dry mouth. I was able to concentrate beautifully but I couldn't handle minor distractions.
I would look into one of the time-release versions of ritalin now. One I think is called Concerta. And Strattera is supposed to have ritalin like effects. I'd only go to straight ritalin if those totally failed.
best.
