Some recend research on Ritalin which shows why it is oftentimes more effective than other stimulants says, that ritalin tends to be more calming than the other stimulants. Ritalin has effects on serotonin, it increases serotonin in certain areas of the brain. No tollerance to the calming effect of ritalin is noted over the years in kids with ADHD
I would assume that ritalin would be a ideal antidepressant. I took it for a while last year and it completely substituted for celexa. At first it made me feel a little high which did wear off, but certain core components of my depression such as sleep disturbance, eating, anxiety and motivation remained improved the whole time I was on it. I do think it does have antidepressant effects, some of which do last the entire duration of treatemnt.
