I think that a lot of people take more than 225 mg of Effexor so don't worry about the dose being too high.

I'm concerned that your depression is as bad as it is at the moment. While you are waiting for the medication to kick in, maybe you should try to stay as active as possible and talk to people on the phone. Or go to church or shopping or anything to stay as busy as possible. No alcohol of course at this point in time.

Studies show that giving Ritalin during the early part of AD treatment can help kick-start the drug. Maybe you could ask your doctor about that.
