Hi there,
I spoke with my doctor about clobenzorex, though I know it's not commercially available in the U.S. He practiced psychiatry in Mexico before coming here a few years ago, though -- he says he routinely prescribed Asenlix (another brand name for clobenzorex) for AD/HD, but typically as a "booster" to a more well-established medication, such as "Ritalina" or "Dexedrina", lol. Anyway, it is legal to have your doctor write a prescription for a non-FDA-approved medication and have it filled at a Canadian, Mexican, or offshore pharmacy. He told me I may as well go ahead and order it without a prescription though -- even pointed me to a website! So I'll let you know when my Asenlix comes in whether it's a good adjunct to my 60mg Adderall XR and 8mg Klonopin.
Surprisingly, I've heard more and more lately about bipolars with AD/HD (and even "pure" bipolars) being prescribed stimulant/mood-stabilizer combinations, to great success. Most often I hear of Adderall combined with lithium and Lamictal. It seems that Ritalin (and other methylphenidate products) tend to precipitate mania in more bipolars than the amphetamines do. As for phenytoin though, I don't really know much about it's use as a mood-stabilizer. That said, I have tried it myself for this purpose in the past -- I did notice some positive effects (i.e. improved quality of sleep, less aggression, better long-term memory), but nothing I'd exactly call "mood-stabilizing"... but I'm not bipolar, so YMMV. :-)
