SSRI's and dopamine dysfunction

Posted by sfloridamatt on November 5, 2003, at 11:10:48

when ssri's first came out starting with prozac, scientists believed they only affected serotonin and no other neurotransmitters....many of the side effects, esp. sexual side effects, are now seen as a depletion or reduction in dopamine due to the rise of serotonin.
this is my question....is there anyway to overcome this dopamine problem by taking other drug(s) or supplements?
i am currently taking 300mg effexor xr. and 450mg of wellbutrin sr. daily. i have heard that effexor, at higher doses like i am taking, also block the reuptake of dopamine.
also every morning on an empty stomach i take 1500mg. of l-tyrosine which is a precursor to dopamine and norepenephrine. i take a men's multi-vitamin that includes extra b-vitamins too
is there anything else i can do to boost dopamine levels? i am very interested in hearing what other people are doing to overcome this problem and also hear your opinion's
