There was a long thread about this a few months ago -- quite interesting. I've had several episodes of intense auditory hallucinations, both on meds and off. Actually, I guess they weren't really "hallucinations", in the sense that I knew it wasn't real. But I could hear musical playing (sometimes classical, sometimes rock, etc.), loudly and in intense detail, as though some song or piece had suddenly been dredged up in its entirety from my "deep memory".
The common thread for me is that I've only had this happen after severe sleep deprivation (e.g., when I'm working to meet a deadline and haven't slept for 48 hours). I'm not sure what neurotransmitter imbalances etc. sleep deprivation causes, but I can imagine that some meds might mimic this. It is rather odd when it happens to me, but at least I know the cause and am aware it's not real.
