I did a paper two years ago on St. John's Wort. I also took it
myself!! You can never really know with that stuff, because it
isn't regulated by the FDA, but here's my advice. The usual effective
dose is 900mg/day, but of course it can go up to 1200 or 1500. I went
up to 1200 and had no success. But you also can't be sure
how much of active constituents they are really putting in. I don't know
where you bought it, but I wouldn't trust Walmart or anywhere like that.
I'd recommend going with a real nutrition store like GNC
or something. I think that they probably have better products.
Also, make sure that your bottle has an expiration date. SJW has been
found to be helpful for some people with mild depression. It's worth
a shot. Good luck!----
Don't use St. John's if you're on the pill

I read somewhere that St. John's Wort can dilute the effects of birth control pills, so if you are using them, you might want to use a back-up contraceptive.
If I wasn't on the pill I would try St. John's, but since I am, I just take flax oil tablets when I remember to. Those really seem to help, except when I'm in a really black mood. On daily basis, there has definitely been an improvement.
