Meds: What has worked for you re:BP1 being alert

Posted by elbee on February 27, 2003, at 21:05:46

Hi folks,
I'm interested in any suggestion re: tweaking meds/what has worked for you. Obviously, I would also need to talk to pdoc, but, of course, I have.
I have bp1 (to a mild/moderate degree, I guess). Have been taking 1250 depacote/300 lithium/75 mg seroquel for a while. Take all meds in eve.

My meds work OK, but I have trouble functioning in a.m. because I'm sort of out of it. Also have problems w/memory & mild depression. The prob. is I'm in grad school & feel that it's really hard to function w/meds making me sorta sleepy in am. & intellectually at a disadvantage. Pdoc not super knowledgeable. I guess it's possible it's the bp & not just meds...

But, for instance, would it be better to switch off of depacote to carbmazepine (sp?) or something? Sorry to ramble, maybe this is too general a question. What will make me more alert am & in general &, ideally make me unmildly depressed. Any suggestions or do I live w/it? Cut back a little? Can't take more Li b/c it makes me feel depressed..Can't tolerate antidepr. & iffy on lamictal (hypom).

Have only had one Big manic episode (but feel diagnosis is correct) & it's hard not to switch around drugs or cut back because consequences not terrible so much as a bit hypo. But it can bite me in butt. Sorry to ramble.
