SPECT and MRIs are not diagnostically useful yet. I believe they will be in the future. As to the effectiveness of ECT, it is, as I understand it, statistically better than any other treatment for depression. Remember, a lot of the people who post on PB are discussing failed treatments.

BTW I've never had ECT but would not hesitate to if it was indicated.
