My husband is a computer programmer for the National Health Service in the UK. He is re-designing the whole pharamcy prescribing system for most of the major hospitals in London.
Today, his "robot" went live (its a robot arm that collects the medication from the shelves and delivers it to the pharmacist).
Anyway, for some reason, the robot refused to collect Effexor!! So my husband got into a discussion abotu Effexor with the head pharamacist, telling her about the hideous withdrawal I went through and how my psychiatric service wouldn't believe me. She said that it was very well known and felt terribly sorry for anyone having to go through it.
She then told him about one of her patients who was due to have major surgery next week. She said she was so concerned about the withdrawal he would go through as he would be nil by mouth for many days.
So, she has made Effexor suppositories for him!!!It really does make me feel good that there are people out there that care about their patients, and are willing to go through to the trouble of making sure their patients don't have to face unnessasary withdrawal.
I'm still laughing that the robot won't work for effexor (yet it works for the thousands of other drugs in the pharmacy!!)
