I think you're right, a lot of people do have trouble with Lamictal. I think a lot of it has to do with the medical community having no idea about the need for an extremely slow titration in some cases. No doctor I've come across suggests 25mg/week or slower. When I tried Lamictal, the "starter pack" recommended 25mg x 2 /day. Within days I was itchy, burning, and had a rash on areas of my body. I've actually hear of people who titrate with 12.5mg increments.
It almost reminds me of the situation with withdrawl from psychiatric drugs. Years ago, almost no doctor understood or acknowleded the difficulty of getting of certain SSRIs. Now it is more widely known, but I still don't think the full depth of it is realized. Sometimes people have to titrate down very, very slowly. The only thing slower is the medical community's awareness of it.
