Gil, I'm with you on this because of the enormous amount of suffering I have seen in Al Anon, AA, etc.
I said earlier that I was okay with my Mom not wanting to do psychiatric drugs after years of recovery but I think they may have headed off the ECT that had to be done STAT.
I've seen folks do amazing things by just working the program also.
I just don't think anyone should rule out possibilities where deep suffering is concerned. Sometimes suffering leads to enlightenment. Usually, it leads to more suffering and it can be helped.
I've had to search my soul over the years on which way to go with all of these issues. Last week, when my med combo started really working after about 3 years of incredible frustration, there is no doubt in my mind about the power of meds to save lives.
I must say, I have had more fun this week than I have had in years.
We've all gotta respect others decisions and to interfere too much is not a healthy caring.
Healthy caring just says,"Hey, if ya wanna talk about it..."
This has been a good discussion. Don't y'all think? Thanks for letting me ramble,
Pj
