my severe depression has been caused by a drug called accutane. Is ECT effective for absolutely all types of depression including mine which is caused by accutane? I feel I may need some fast relief possibly very soon so I am strongly looking into ECT to potentially save my life.
I know that perhaps it can cause some minor brain damage but I am willing to accept that risk. Same with the memory loss which usually shouldn't be much longer than a month when it comes to uni lateral ECT.
I have tried paxil and effexor which both have had a worsening effect on my depression. for the last few days I have actually thought the most seriously about suicide yet. Effexor I stopped today. If I didn't feel worse on these meds than I have when I was off meds then I would continue them. Perhaps Seratonin anti depressants are just bad for me. Perhaps dopamine and norepinephrine is what I need. But that worries me also. If those two drugs made me worse then what if the next one does also?
my depression is very unique since it has been caused by the accutane. which is too much vitamin A causing mental disorder. When I stopped taking the paxil my mood improved significantly after a few days. Actually I felt my depression went from severe to kind of mild. perhaps the same thing will happen now since I stopped the effexor which has just had me feeling constantly horrible the last 5 days. I started that 7 days ago.
I already talked with my mom about the ECT and she said we will go along with it just as long as my phychiatrist agrees. i will beg her if i have to unless my mood improves enough in the coming days due to stopping effexor.
So basically my question is...
Has ECT been proven effective in mood disorders/depression that has been chemically induced?
i have been really desperate recently. please try not to scare me regarding ECT. I need to get rid of the pain. Also since my depression was made worse by seratonin anti depressants what would be a good after ECT med to keep me responded or remitted? I haven't done enough research on this. If I would have continued with anti depressants and meds I would have chosen Zyprexa or Wellbutrin next. I am just not sure about the meds though. perhaps reuptake inhibitting is bad for me? What meds could balance my chemicals? perhaps I have too much of them and therefor reuptaking makes me feel worse in the case of those two seratonin meds. Any insight would be helpful. I'm sorry if I have been too silly with my messages but I am really desperate. please help me.
