From those tests it seems SSRIs can be harmful, but usually only in doses much higher than the maximum doses we take. Of them all, I think literature says Prozac is the safest for pregnancy. They are probably all safe, especially if you can try to keep the doses at a bare minimum. This is one of those times when we have to make tough decisions between risk and benefit. If you think you could survive nine months without drugs at all, that might be worth considering. But if drugs are needed, the smallest possible doses should minimize any possible risk I think. Unfortunately I'm not aware of any human trials to tell us for sure. But if your doctor is comfortable with it, then there probably haven't been any adverse situations to cause him concern. You might want to ask him about other patients who have taken SSRIs during pregnancy and find out if there were any problems in any of them.
It's just a guess, but maybe he is wanting to switch to Celexa because it has few interactions with other drugs. That is its primary selling point over other SSRIs. If you need some other types of drugs during pregnancy or delivery, Celexa might have fewer interactions with them than other SSRIs. Just a guess.
